Welcome to the LOD Video Blog.

It annoys me that when the economy slumps and governments want to cut spending they choose to hit Education, Healthcare and the Arts. These are the three things that are the foundation of any great society and by not funding them they hinder the long-term development of their nation.

Get corporations to contribute to these things and they will ensure that creative, forward-thinking, healthy and educated people will be in their workforce. To me to it is clear. In order to solve the problems that we are facing as a planet it is these creative, forward-thinking, healthy and educated people who are most likely to provide solutions!

I love Art and how it affects us. This is what this blog is about. I want to show how The Arts are important and that we don't just want to survive, we want to LIVE!

Art enriches our lives, accompanies us on our way to work, heals us, comforts us, helps us see things in new ways and allows us to express ourselves. I'm not sure how many people would have made it through their teenage lives without music, books or movies!

As Cary Grant's character, "Phillip Shane" says in "That Touch of Mink":

“The wealth of a nation is in the well-being of its people, both spiritually and materialistically. It's not a question of lowering our standards, but of helping others to raise theirs.... When you encourage and help people to develop their own natural resources, you do more than put bread in their mouths, you put dignity in their hearts."

That's how I feel about Art, whether it's audio, visual or written. Without Art we are unable to express our individuality - or capitalize on it to sell a product or an idea. All cars would be one colour, we would wear the same clothes, every font would be the same, no political campaign would have a theme song, a logo or a tag line.

And so the blog begins…
