Whale sharks and manta rays are gentle giants that feed off tiny creatures and are therefore revealing about the state of our oceans. These threatened animals are also frequently and disturbingly fished for fins and medicinal ingredients. The conservation efforts by Marine Megafauna (http://www.marinemegafauna.org/) involve tracking individual animals, monitoring water conditions and habitats, and educating local fishermen and kids about sustainable harvesting alternatives and why these animals are worth more to them alive than dead.
